I read this piece in the Times of India today. Sanjay Kak while commenting on the Shopian tragedy and the demonstrations that followed says:
This summer’s protest is not just about the rape and murder of two women, the violation of human rights, or even the repeal of some draconian law. The shadow play must not distract us from the real issue, which is the extraordinary and intolerable militarization of Kashmir.

I am an Indian Muslim. I am not sure if you are an Indian or a Pakistani. I have sympathy for Kashmiri people and every Indian has a lot of sympathy and want to help you all. I always see that you all keep on blaming India and trying to be anti-India.
I agree that there is some injustice often done to some Kashmiris. But I would like to inform you that from what I can see in most cases Kashmiris are also to blame to some extent.
I dont understand why some
profanities deletedKashmiris act like India is anti-Islamic or anti-Kashmiri. I am a Muslim too born and brought up in India. I love my country from the depth of my heart and we all Indians are brothers and sisters. But I see most Kashmiris acting as if they are not Indians. Why do you do that? It really makes people angry and I also get angry at many Kashmiris for such behaviour. You all should act like proper Indians and not act as if you are away from India.I even see Kashmiris supporting the Pakistani dogs in cricket matches etc. At first how the hell can you support a terrorist country like Pakistan and especially the terrorists. And own country comes first. So, you have to respect and honour India above any other country in the world.
Act like Indians and I am sure every Indian would be more than ready to help you all and work for your developement. If you say that there was some injustice done to Muslims in Kashmir then the fact is also that the way in which Kashmiri Pandits were treated in the valley was not right. Our religion teaches us peace and humanity and if you all follow our religion properly too then you would be liked a lot more in India.
We Indian Muslims are an integral part of India and have been successful in all spheres of public life. Hope that the Kashmiri Muslims also get their share of support and success in the great Indian democracy. But please behave properly and stop acting like Pakistanis in order to be respected and liked all Indians including Indian Muslim.
May Allah open all your mind towards India and bring peace, stability and success to your lives. India is the best country in the world and we all are lucky to be born in this great nation. Hope you also understand this and stop supporting terrorists and behaving anti-India.
I have read the post on Kashmiri Pandits right now and sorry if I said anything wrong. I see that you are unbiased and respect each and every person and religion. I respect your honesty and hope all Kashmiris would be like you. We would love to help you all as well as Kashmiri Pandits prosper and such an attitude is really welcome.
Allah Hafiz
My opinion on this is that the situation has been allowed to go out of hand, especially due to the lack of education, jobs and peace in the Valley.
I grew up in Kashmir and what I saw there recently is a strange, different world. They speak of harrassment at the hands of the Army.
Have they forgotten Nandigram?????
I could spout venom here, considering the massacres the militants carried out to eliminate Kashmiri Pandits from the valley. Even killing a 2 year old child in Nandigram. Go check the records first….what the locals are suffering now is their own doing.
There is retribution after all. Heaven and hell are here on earth and the Muslims of Kashmir are witnessing it. They do not find accomodation easily outside Kashmir. They are looked on as suspicious people, possible militants. The have militants in the educated ranks as well, so tell us, who is NOT a militant among you now??????
What happened that time was against human rights, what is happening since then and today is against human rights as well…..
Can you get justice by punishing innocents of today for a few guilty two decades ago? There is no retribution on innocent souls. You think it is retribution, but ask anyone it is inhumanity, cruelity and oppression of innocent souls. How many children have died at the hands of the army? How many have disappeared? What will be the retribution for all of these innocent deaths that have been on and on since those times?
Retribution means “The act of taking revenge (harming someone in retaliation for something harmful that they have done)”. What has a simple living Kashmiri done?
This is clearly an illogical argument of covering up the sins and evil doings of Indians in Kashmir. Just to show that India is “Mahaan Desh”… well we know how mahaan it is , if this is the logic Indians abide to.
Well MR z.We are not speaking for India. You People always complain that you are discriminated. In other words you presume beforehand that since india is a land of Hindus therfore we are discrimnated. In other words it is a guilt complex . Because Kashmir is part of indian subcontinent.Therfore conversion is at the root of all troubles in kashmir. Since Arab muslims discriminte on the basis of religion therfore conveted Kashmiri has to believe that he is discrimnated. In the past it was a ploy to strengthen neo converts and give them different identity.
I challenge friend Bilhan Kaul to comment on a post without any mention of word Arab domination / discrimination and without trying to fault Islam for every wrong he sees.
Someone
Well Mr someone; if you carefully look at all the posts i have written religion is least on my mind but it is on the mind of Kashmiris. Because problem is religious nationalism in Kashmir.Hence , my question to you is simple; if you seriously beleive in me ; you and others why were then kashmiris converted. They were converted for political purposes.I am anxious about naga and pishcha festival which were adopted by Kashmiri Pandits from others dying in the valley. In other words Kashmiri Pandits were maintaning festivals which were and are festivals of converted people. So i have always maintained conversion is at root of all the troubles in Kashmirand i too have maintained that i respect the culture of outsiders settled in valley. Comment upon Arabs is an example given how much converted people are dominated by Arabs. If you look carefully i am not passing comment on Arab cultue and religion , it is their culture and whom am i to pass comment
Bilhan,
You have simply buttressed my point of view.
